Biography

Prof. Dr. Milovan Bojić was born in Kolašin, where he graduated from elementary school and high school as the best student, and then from the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, where he obtained his master's degree, specialization and doctorate with excellent results.

He worked at the Institute for Student Health Protection of the University of Belgrade, the Clinical Center of Serbia, and then at the then Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases "Dedinje", now the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases "Dedinje". 

Prof. Dr. Milovan Bojić left an indelible mark during his almost four decades of work in Serbian cardiovascular medicine. He introduced multidisciplinarity and multiinstitutionality in cardiology research and clinical practice. He published about 750 scientific and professional works, authored 11 monographs, five of which are textbooks of the Faculty of Medicine. He is a regular member of the Salzburg European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EANU).

Prof. Dr. Milovan Bojić introduced new methods in the cardiovascular medicine of our country. The first successful heart and liver transplant, implantation of a partial artificial heart, implantation of a total artificial heart, surgical remodeling of the heart, implantation of a cardioverter-defibrillator, introduced TAVI procedures, founded and managed the Laboratory for Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology, was a visiting professor at leading universities in Europe and of the world and full professor of cardiovascular medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Milan. He attended professional training in Italy, America, Germany and France. 

From 1992 to 2000, Prof. Dr. Milovan Bojić becomes the director of the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases "Dedinje", creating the vision and development of this institution, moving it from the rank of a clinic for cardiovascular diseases to the rank of an institute. In his clinical work so far, he presented 21 new procedures, which were not performed in Serbian cardiovascular medicine. The Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases "Dedinje" is a highly organized health institution that achieves records, not only in the country, but also in the world, and under the leadership of prof. Dr. Milovan Bojić, in 2019, the largest number of open-heart surgeries were performed in Europe. 

Prof. Milovan Bojić was awarded the First Class Order of Sretenje for special services to the Republic of Serbia and its citizens in the field of cardiovascular medicine development, the Order of the Flag of the Republic of Srpska with a golden wreath, the Order of Saint King Milutin and numerous other professional and scientific awards.
