Stadium "Rajko Mitić"

The home of our club is located in Ljutice Bogdana street at number 1a. The magnificent sports facility, one of the largest in the Balkans, is a witness to decades of success and victories of Crvena zvezda.

The official name of our stadium since December 2014 is "Rajko Mitić", after the first Zvezda's star. Previously, the official name of the stadium was "FK Crvena zvezda stadium". Many fans simply call it "Marakana", and why, you will find out in the following text.

The field with the stands, which was originally built in 1927 at the place where our stadium is today, belonged to FK "Yugoslavia", and its appearance was suitable for that time. The stands were wooden, the spectators mostly stood during the matches, and the capacity was 20 thousand standing places.

During the Second World War, FK "Yugoslavia" was shut down, and with the establishment of FK "Crvena zvezda", on March 4, 1945, the stadium of the former FK "Yugoslavia", where today's "Marakana" is located, was ceded to our club. On December 27, 1959, Crvena zvezda played last match at old stadium. The team of Novi Sad was a rival at the farewell to the dilapidated playground.

A part of football history went with him. On that playground, Moša Marjanović scored a goal against Zamora, Planička was defeated, and many beautiful and exciting games were played after the Second World War.

After the farewell match, the stadium was demolished and a new, modern sports facility was built on its foundations. Previously, in order to reach the surface of the new terrain - 12 meters lower than the previous one, over 350,000 cubic meters of earth and 15,000 cubic meters of stone had to be removed. In addition to its magnificent appearance, the stadium also received exceptional grass on the playing field at that time, with drainage and all the layers necessary for the "life" of a grass field.

The gates of the new "football temple" were officially opened for the first time on September 1, 1963, at the match that Zvezda played with Rijeka (2:1), and that match was attended by 55,000 spectators, so that autumn's record was recorded in the derby with Partizan, when there were 74 thousand people in the stands.

Already the following year, when the construction of the stadium was completely completed, the capacity was 110 thousand spectators! Due to its grandiosity and large capacity, the fans rightly compared the stadium to the largest in the world at the time - "Maracana" in Rio de Janeiro. From those days, until today, that name has remained an integral part of the story of Red Star, and our beloved the stadium has become synonymous with success and victories!

The first goal at Zvezda's "Maraкana" was scored by Trifun Mihajlović, in the meeting between the pioneers of Crvena zvezda and Jedinstvo from Zemun, the preliminaries of the championship match with Rijeka. The first official, first league goal was the work of Vukoj from Rijeka, while the first goal for the senior team of Crvena zvezda was scored by Dušan Maravić, in the same game.

That the "Marakana" stadium is a true football temple is best confirmed by the fact from 1975, when 96.070 souls gathered there for the match that Zvezda played against the Hungarian Ferencvaros on April 23, within the semi-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup (2:2). According to official data, there were so many spectators with purchased tickets, but it is estimated that on that April night, 110 thousand spectators were present at our "Marakana", which was the capacity of the stadium at that time.

Following the modernization of football facilities and respecting the rigorous requirements of UEFA, with the aim of greater comfort and safety for the fans, today that number has been significantly reduced and by installing chairs on all four stands, the capacity of the stadium has been reduced to 51.755 seats.

Five Zvezda's star

Within the stadium, there is also a central box "Five Zvezda's stars" which consists of five segments, each of which bears the name of one of the legendary Zvezda's football players (Rajko Mitić, Dragoslav Šekularac, Dragan Džajić, Vladimir Petrović Pižon, Dragan Stojković Piksi). There is also a VIP 2 box where the club's friends and sponsors are located. The VIP 3 box is mainly intended for veterans and people who have marked Zvezda's history. In order for our stadium to be on par with the most comfortable sports facilities in the region, it was also built a special VIP gallery with over 450 seats, located above the western tribune, closer to the north.

Within the stadium, there are also several cafes where fans can refresh themselves, as well as sales stands in the stands where visitors can buy non-alcoholic beverages, as well as fan souvenirs.
