State champions 1956.

In every "marathon" championship, and this one in which Crvena Zvezda became the champion of Yugoslavia for the fifth time, in the 1955/56 season, it lasted 22 weeks, the consistency of form was the strongest weapon. That was the greatest feature of our Red Star even then. In the autumn part of the season Crvena Zvezda won 20 out of 26 possible points, the same as Partizan, while Radnički had one point less. In the spring, we repeated the identical performance, and that was enough for first place. None of Zvezda's rivals had the strength to persevere to the end in this tough race.

The beginning was turbulent. There were frequent changes in the leadership position, and Crvena Zvezda was in first place for the first time in the third round. It remained in the lead at the end of the autumn part of the championship. Zvezda and Partizan alternated at the top in the spring part, but the turnaround occurred in the 19th round. when they Crvena Zvezda and Vojvodina played to a draw in Novi Sad (1:1), while Željezničar defeated Partizan 1:0 in Sarajevo. Crvena Zvezda She then took first place and didn't let go until the end.

From round to round, the eternal rival had fewer and fewer chances and at the end of the championship, as a competitor, he was eliminated from the race for the championship crown. The fate of the championship was practically decided three rounds before the end, and in the end, this was the balance of the champions. We played 26 matches, of which we won 16 times, drew eight times and suffered only two defeats. The goal difference was 62:29, and we had a total of 40 points.

That season, Red Star's first two stars, Rajko Mitić and Dragoslav Šekularac, played for the team, and in goal, alongside Krivokuća, was the great Vladimir Beara.
