The Red Star football team won their third championship title in the then FPR Yugoslavia in the 1952/53 season. The Red Star team was in its best form in the period from May to June 1953, when it won first place in the championship in an extraordinary finish. In the end, Crvena Zvezda was the champion with a final balance of 22 games, 13 wins, five draws, four losses, with a total of 31 points, with a goal difference of 47:27. Miljan Zeković played the most championship games (22), and Todor Živanović scored the most goals (17).
That season, a positive score was achieved with the eternal rival (1:1, 4:2), and the only negative was in the duels against Hajduk Split (1:4, 2.2). Todor Živanović was the top scorer of the championship with 17 goals. In the preparatory period, a combined team mostly played, because Stanković, Ognjanov, Mitić and Diskić were with the Yugoslav national team at the Olympic Games in Helsinki, while Đajić could not play due to injury. Otherwise, the championship year of 1953 began with three matches in Belgium, France and Germany (tour from the end of 1952). We defeated the combined team of Racing and Stade France (5:0), Munich 1860 (2:0), while the only defeat was suffered by Rouen (0:1).

On the eve of the start of the season, we convincingly defeated the Austrian champions Rapid Vienna (4:0), and we also started well in the championship. Then came the failures against Vardar (1:3), Dinamo Zagreb (0:1) and Zagreb (0:0), but we also showed two good games. First in Split against Hajduk and against Partizan. The championship was successfully ended on the podium, in furious style, with 10 goals scored in the last two championship matches against BSK (5:3) and Spartak (5:1). At the end of June, after the championship ended, an international friendly match was played with Juventus from São Paulo (0:0), and then the tour of Belgium and West Germany began successfully - Liège (2:2), Cologne (4:2).
