Crvena Zvezda In 1997, for the second time in its rich history, it triumphed for the third time in a row in the domestic cup. This time, Vojvodina was defeated in the final duels. There were no goals in the first match in Novi Sad, and in the return match on May 21, in front of 20,000 spectators at Marakana, Zoran Njeguš scored the winning goal for Zvezda from the penalty spot in the 85th minute.

Crvena Zvezda had previously eliminated Kom, Hajduk from Kula, Rad and in the semifinals Obilić, after better penalty shooting. The top scorer in the cup was Zoran Jovicic: nine games - five goals.
