For the tenth time, Red Star Belgrade players triumphed in the cup in 1982, when they beat Dinamo Zagreb 2:2, 4:2 in two matches.
The first match at Maksimir ended without a winner – 2:2 (Zvezda's scorers were Šestić and Petrović from penalties). In the return match, on May 23 in front of 60,000 spectators at Marakana, Zvezda won 4:2, and the scorers for the red and whites were: Savić (2), Đorđić and Šestić. Crvena Zvezda had previously eliminated Borac from Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Olimpija and Galenika. The best performance was achieved by Vladimir Petrović Pižon and Dušan Savić, Zvezda's main stars in the early 1980s.
