Džajić's generation defended the cup trophy in grand style in 1971. Everything was decided in the first final match away in Tuzla, where Sloboda was convincingly defeated 4:0. Goals were scored by Džajić (2), Filipović and Karasi. The return match, on May 26 at Marakana, was just a formality. Crvena Zvezda was better again, winning 2:0, with goals from Janković and Filipović.
On the way to the trophy, the following teams were eliminated: Spartak, Vojvodina, Bor and Velež. The professional coach of the red and whites was Miljan Miljanić, the most trophy-winning coach in the history of Red Star. In addition to Đajić, Zoran Filipović also stood out with his efficiency (six matches, seven goals).
