Brazilian forward Jonathan Cafu joins Crvena zvezda from Girondins de Bordeaux on a season-long loan with an option of a permanent transfer.
Former PFC Ludogorets player starred for the Bulgarian club when we met in 2016/17 season, scoring two goals that eliminated Miodrag Božović’s side from the Champions League.
Fans in Belgrade witnessed Cafu’s skills that secured him a transfer to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux. He will get more chances to shine at Rajko Mitić Stadium, this time wearing red and white stripes.
Cafu spoke to our website after finalizing the move to Zvezda.
“I’m honoured and happy to be here. It’s fantastic to join such a big club. Winning trophies is my goal. I’m here to win matches and help the club win titles. Winning championships is what makes players great. It’s why we play and love football.”
Jonathan Renato Barbosa, nicknamed Cafu, was born on 10 July 1991 in Piracicaba, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. Fine performances for local clubs alerted the attention of Associação Atlética Ponte Preta and later São Paulo Futebol Clube, some of the famous Brazilian clubs.
Cafu is a quick and technical player who can play either on the wing or upfront and will undoubtedly excite Zvezda fans.
Welcom to Belgrade, Jonathan!
