The first half was a disappointing affair with hardly any incidents of note. Both teams looked sluggish on a hot evening in Belgrade and the fans were certainly left wanting.
But thankfully, things improved for Vladan Milojević’s men as they knocked on the door in search of a valuable opener.
On came Luka Adžić, player who was arguably the most influential Crvena zvezda player today. The skillful winger ran with the ball and rolled the ball perfectly for El Fardou Ben Nabouhane to finish past Belić and give Zvezda the lead just after the hour mark.
It was the goal that changed the flow of the match and the home team never looked back. Čukarički, managed by former Crvena zvezda player and Head Coach Nenad Lalatović, had to get into the opponents’ half and this provided more space for quick Red Star forwards.
On 77 minutes the points looked certain as Nemanja Radonjić expertly controlled a pull-back from Rodić, skipped over a couple of defenders and found the net to the delight of home fans.
There was still time for Luka Adžić to get on the scoresheet as he rifled in from a free kick.
The team will now prepare for weekend’s trip to Napredak knowing that a win there would make them champions of Serbia.
We’re within touching distance now!
