Gabonese attacking midfielder Guélor Kanga is now a Crvena zvezda player. He signed a two-year contract on 1 July 2016 having completed his medical and all the formalities.
"The 25-year old Gabon international has represented his country 26 times and arrives as a free agent after a three-year stint at Russian club FC Rostov. He has had a great season playing in Russia - his club finished in the second place behind CSKA Moscow. Kanga is an attacking midfielder, but he can also play in the middle of the park and even on the wing if necessary. Our new number eight has been described as a "good passer of the ball with very good technical ability and high work-rate."
Kanga spoke to the Serbian media for the first time in the Rajko Mitić Stadium press-centre.
"I'd like to thank everyone at FK Crvena zvezda for the trust they have shown me. This already seems familiar because I've worked with Head Coach Miodrag Božović before. I also know a couple of players, so I hope to settle in quickly. I know that the Club has achieved a lot in the past season, but I'm ready to help the team do even better this term - especially in Europe."
"The fans should know that I'm prepared to do everything for the team. I know what is expected of me here and I'm confident that I will do well for Zvezda. I'm familiar with the Club's history and I'll be looking to play even better than I've played in Russia. I always want to win the league wherever I play."
The playmaker has had offers to stay at FC Rostov as well as a few offers from France and Turkey, but he chose Crvena zvezda Belgrade.
"I decided to sign for Zvezda because of the Club's history and a desire to play in European competitions."
Welcome to Belgrade, Guélor!
