Throughout the club's rich history, Crvena Zvezda recorded a large number of convincing victories on the international football stage, but the biggest triumph in the Champions League was achieved on October 2, 1957, when our team defeated Luxembourg's representative team, Didelange, with a big 9:1.
The Red and Whites entered the 1957/1958 season with great ambitions, because our team in those years was considered the fear and trepidation of the former Yugoslavia. The team led by Rajko Mitić, Boro Kostić and Dragoslav Šekularac was a threat to the biggest names in European football. By winning the title in the previous season, our club secured a place in the elite competition of the Old Continent.
In the first round of the European Champions Cup, Crvena Zvezda and the Didelang team met, and the first match was played in Luxembourg and our team won with 0:5. The return match was played in Belgrade and it was clear to everyone that the red-whites were about to score a goal.
Crvena zvezda opened the match in the capital in an extraordinary way and in the fifth minute Jovan Cokić scored for our team's early lead. Just five minutes later, Zvezda's first star, Rajko Mitić doubled Zvezda's lead with his magic. This was followed by the evening of the best scorer in the history of our club, Bora Kostić. The red and white nine scored an incredible four goals in a space of only 16 minutes. Kostić scored in the 17th, 29th, 30th and 33rd minutes of the game. In the 31st minute, the guests scored the only goal of the match, which was not enough to save them from a convincing defeat. It was the 38th minute, when Cokić shook the net for the second time in the match. This was also the most convincing half of Crvena Zvezda, and our club went to a well-deserved rest with an unreal 7:1.
In the second part of the game, Cokić continued to shine, scoring a hat trick in the 66th minute. The end of this historic game of our heroes was put again by Cokić, who scored his fourth goal in the game and thus equalized with Boro Kostić, who did it in the first half. With great joy and enthusiasm, the audience celebrated this magnificent victory of Red Star by as much as 9:1, which has not been surpassed until today on the international stage.
