The fantastic atmosphere at Maracana marked the beginning of another big European match for Red Star, and the overture before the game was marked by the golden water polo players who were greeted by the whole stadium - Sava Randjelovic, Radomir Drašovic, Strahinja Rašović, Vladimir Mišović. The first danger in the visitors' penalty area came in the fifth minute when Milson crossed from the left flank, but Duarte was unable to head the ball as he would have liked. Already in the next minute, Ivanić shot diagonally from the left side, from a good position - over the goal. Hwang attempted a shot from distance in the 13th minute and properly troubled Haykin who had to send the ball into the corner. Chances continued to appear in front of Bode's goal, and in the 16th minute, Olanjinka was the main protagonist when he took the ball away from Bjerkan in the danger zone and sent Duarte to work, who was eventually blocked by Gundersen. Constant pressing was played by Milojević's players and made it difficult for Bode to start any meaningful action from the last line, but they were constantly forced to look for solutions with long balls.

Deserved - Zvezda took the lead in the 26th minute when Bruno Duarte scored from the penalty spot, after Milson was fouled by Sheffield earlier. He hit Olanjinka's crossbar in the 31st minute after Duarte characteristically got out on the left flank and crossed, but the Nigerian attacker rattled the crossbar with a header after Haykin hooked the ball. Elšnik also tried a shot from distance in the 36th minute, but the ball from the rebound rolled to Haikin. Victory was played in the first half in front of Bode's goal, Marakana did its job, but so did the players who fantastically respected the tactics of coach Milojević and completely prevented the rival from creating anything.

The visitors started off more relieved in the continuation, but Mimovic intervened brilliantly on several occasions and managed to neutralize Hauge, who stood out as the most dangerous footballer of Bode. The first shot on goal was sent by the players of Bode only in the 56th minute, when Berg shot from 20 meters, and Ilić made an excellent save. Zvezda scored another goal, fully deserved, in the 59th minute when Elšnik made an excellent cross from a corner, and captain Uroš Spajić headed the ball into the net - for a complete eruption of enthusiasm at the Maracana. Milojević replaced him, he put Puma on the field, and then Dalsi and Endiaje.

Immediately after entering the game, Endiaye showed what heart he has and how much he fights for Zvezda, so he took the ball away from Shefold and thundered down the left flank, but the final pass was missing. In the next attack, in the 75th minute, Ivanić also passed on the left side, but he was blocked by Bjertfut, who positioned himself just in front of Endiaje. Despite the active result, Zvezda had complete control of the game and literally nothing changed in the idea of Vladan Milojević. In the finish, Milojević also gave a chance to the fresh Ilić, and Hwang almost ended the match in the 88th minute when he shot well from the left side to a well-positioned Hajkin. Ilić had an even better chance in stoppage time, but he hit Hajkin on the goal line...

However, it was more than enough for the great Red Star, who will play in the Champions League again!
