Zvezda revija | The day when Zvezda "broke" Real and took the royal crown off his head

On the legendary March 4, 1987, Red Star triumphed at the Maracana against Real Madrid, and the royal club was defeated by a big 4:2. In those days, there was a real football fever in Belgrade, and the European Champions Cup quarter-final match was one of those for which a higher ticket was demanded. The unprecedented snow in Belgrade, the cold and the roar of the crowded Maracana, in addition to the historic victory, made the match against the Spanish team unforgettable.

Hours before the start of the historic clash, the stands were filled to capacity. Everyone was impatiently waiting for the teams to take the field. In the north, the biggest flag in Europe at the time was unfurled and everything was ready for the start of the game. Already in the 11th minute, Zvezda was leading with 2:0. The first goal was scored by Đurovski, and the second by Đurović. At that moment, the Maracana "boiled", and our players attacked on the wings of the support of the fans. Cvetkovic increased the score to 3:0 in the 38th minute, while Sanchez reduced it to 3:1 in the 65th minute. The fourth goal for the magical Zvezda on March 4 was scored by Janković and caused an eruption of enthusiasm. The final 4:2 was made by Sanchez from the penalty spot.
