Zvezda's most convincing start to the championship since 1951

Observing the matches of Barak Bahar's chosen players, we are witnessing the creation of one of the strongest generations of our club. In the opening three rounds of the domestic championship, the red and whites played extremely offensive football, and we scored goals through individual qualities, as well as through brilliantly constructed team attacks. The crowd at the Maracana enjoyed the goals scored against Vojvodina (5:0) and Napredek (4:0), while the fans in Lucani were delighted by Zvezda's convincing victory against Mladost (1:4) in the first away game.

When we draw the line, we come to the impressive goal difference recorded in the aforementioned three matches. With 13 goals scored and only one conceded, Red Star opened the national championship most effectively since 1951. Namely, at the beginning of the second half of the 20th century, our club achieved a goal difference of 13:0 in the first three games. We beat BSK 1:0, and then outclassed Spartak and Vojvodina with an identical score of 6:0.

The 1958/59 generation was just one goal short of equaling efficiency, followed by a 12:3 goal difference in the first three games. We were better than Vardar (3:2), Hajduk (7:0) and Željeznicar (2:1). Also, the team from the 1989/90 season could break the record set at that time, which defeated Sloboda 6:1 in the first round, but in the second round we lost to Vojvodina 2:1, and in the third round they triumphed over Vardar. with 5:2. That brings us to a performance of 12 goals conceded, but also five conceded.

As a reminder, our club had the best start to the championship in 1945, when we beat Železničar (18:0), Sloboda (9:0) and Drvodeljac (4:3) in the opening part of the Belgrade championship.

In many competitive seasons, Zvezda managed to open the championship with three victories at the start, but not as convincingly as Barak Bahar's company, at least since 1951. If we look back at the previous season 2022/23, in the first three games we conceded only one goal, but we scored eleven.

Given that we already achieved a result that was awaited for 72 years in the early stages of the championship, we are sure that we will write new pages of history in the next challenges. The opportunity to continue the convincing series of victories is already on Saturday, August 19, when we will welcome Spartak at the "Rajko Mitić" stadium from 8:30 p.m.
