Meet Zvezda's rival - Monaco

Monaco was founded on August 1, 1919. Home games are played at the already mentioned "Louis II" stadium, which holds slightly more than 18,000 spectators. Throughout its rich history, Monaco has managed to win as many as 18 trophies within the framework of French football, which is respectable data, taking into account the competition in which they compete. In the showcases of their club there are: eight trophies of the champion of France, five cups of France, one French League Cup, one cup of the second division of France, two trophies of the French Super Cup and one trophy of a tournament that has not existed since 1965 - the Charles Drago Cup.

Our team has met this French giant only twice throughout history. Both matches were played in the 2022/2023 season, when these two teams were together in Group H of the second best European competition - the Europa League. The fact that our team was defeated both times in that season shows how difficult an opponent Monaco is. The then team of Miloš Milojević was defeated 0:1 in Belgrade, at the "Rajko Mitić" stadium. Despite the better play of Zvezda, and the greater number of created opportunities, our team failed to secure points. In the second game, which was played in France, the home team won 4:1, and the only goal for Zvezda was scored by Gelor Kanga from the penalty spot in the 54th minute of the match.

The head of the coaching staff of the French team is a fifty-four-year-old Austrian - Adi Hitter. This is his second season in Monaco, and in the first he established a system that brought him excellent results. Monaco stands predominantly in the low block. They always wait for the opponent's mistakes and prefer to play in transition because they have very fast wing players, who will undoubtedly take advantage of every opportunity to run into the attack. Monaco's first team started the season in an enviable way because after three games they have two wins and one draw.

The line-up of last year's vice-champion of France consists of: Ken - Vanderson, Carrer, Salissa, Watara - Zakaria, Magasa - Minamino, Aklius, Shehir - Embolo. On the bench with reserve players there are several quality footballers such as: Enrique, Golovin and Balogan, and the biggest threat are the already mentioned quick-footed players who can create a problem for the best teams in Europe in counterattacks. However, the danger for our team does not end there, because the team from Monte Carlo knows how to play with the ball at their feet. Players like Minamino, Golovin and Zakaria know very well how to handle the ball, and how to find teammates who open up in the attacking field with long passes.
