As part of the third round of the Champions League group stage in the 2023/24 season, Red Star will meet RB Leipzig away on Wednesday, October 25 at 9 p.m.
MUTUAL DUELS
Throughout its rich history, our club has competed against German teams on as many as 35 occasions. We remember the great victories of the red and whites, and the statistics show that we won 14 duels, drew five times and suffered 16 defeats, with a goal difference of 50:62.
However, this will be the first time that Red Star and RB Leipzig will meet, given that the club from the city of the same name was founded in 2009.
ALWAYS BE WITH THE STAR
Although we expect great support from the star players at the Red Bull Arena, a stadium with a capacity of 47,000 seats, our club informs all fans who will not be able to support Barak Bahar's first team in Germany, that the match of the third round of the group stage of the Champions League between Leipzig and Red stars will be able to watch live on RTS1, but also on Arena Premium 1 starting at 9 p.m. You will also be able to follow the match on Zvezda's application, via text transmission on our Match Center, which is active at every match, minute by minute, as well as on the official Twitter account of our club.
TEAM FORM
Crvena zvezda is currently in the second position of the Serbian Superliga table with 24 points. Barak Bahar's team won eight matches (Vojvodina, Napredak, Mladost, Spartak, Novi Pazar, Radnički Niš, Radnički 1923, Javor) and experienced two defeats (Voždovac, Čukarički). We are currently without a draw in the championship, with a goal difference of 29:12, which makes us the most efficient team. In the Serbian Cup, we convincingly eliminated Trial from Kruševac with 0:6, and secured the next stage of the competition. When it comes to the Champions League, our club played heroically in defeating Manchester City (3:1), while we drew with Young Boys (2:2) at the Maracana.
Our next opponent is in fifth place in the German Bundesliga table with 17 points. After eight matches played, Mark Rose's team has five wins (Stuttgard, Union Berlin, Augsburg, Borussia Monchengladbach, Darmstadt), two draws (Bayern Munich, Bochum), but also one defeat in the first round against Bayer Leverkusen. The goal difference in the championship is 19:7. The players of RB Leipzig opened the season very well with a victory in the German Super Cup, when they defeated the Bavarians with 3:0. In the most prestigious European competition in the current season, they defeated Young Boys in Switzerland (3:1), but also suffered a defeat against Manchester City at home (1:3).
OPPOSING PLAYERS
RB Leipzig plays in a 4-4-2 formation. In goal is the experienced thirty-two-year-old Jenis Blasviš, while his replacement is the Hungarian - Peter Gulacci. Lukas Klosterman plays in the back positions, while the irreplaceable David Raum acts on the opposite side. The stopper couple is represented by a player born in Marseille - Mohamed Simakan and his compatriot Castelo Luceba, who is only 20 years old. Of course, due to an injury, the Leipzig captain, staunch stopper Willy Orban, will not be in the squad. The midfield is entrusted to two guys, first the vice-captain - Kevin Kampl, who has been a part of Leipzig since 2017, as well as the standard member of the Austrian national team - Xaver Schlager. In the position of the right wing, the super-talented Xavi Simmons gets the most confidence, while Leipzig's top ten - Emil Forsberg breaks through on the left flank. The heavy artillery in the attack consists of Lois Openda, who arrived from Lens this summer in a transfer worth 38 million and another reinforcement from the sister club of Salzburg - Benjamin Sesko. There is, of course, Jusuf Poulsen, who played in every game this season, but in most situations he shares minutes with Seško. Also, the biggest star of the team has recovered from injury - Dani Olmo, a player who passed Barcelona's "La Masia" and will probably start the game on the bench, while Timo Werner, Fabio Carvalho, Christoph Baumgartner, Nicolas Sejwald, Ilaik will also be available from the bench. Moriba, Amadou Haidara…
