On Thursday - September 19, from 6:45 p.m., the Red Star players will host the Benfica team in the first round of the Champions League, at the "Rajko Mitić" stadium.
MUTUAL DUELS
The red and whites have met the vice-champion of Portugal only twice in history. Both times within the first round of the then most elite European football competition - the European Champions Cup. In that double match, which was played in the 1984/1985 season, both teams celebrated the match at home.
The first game is remembered by all star players, when after a 0:2 deficit at halftime, Rajko Janjanin entered the game, who scored a hat-trick in the continuation of the duel and thus brought Red Star a historic turn. That match ended with a score of 3:2, and the Portuguese team won the second leg, at the "da Luz" stadium, with a score of 2:0.

TEAM FORM
Crvena zvezda is first in the table in the Serbian Superliga. After seven played rounds, they have 19 points, six wins, and one draw. The goal difference of our team is 21:4, which speaks volumes about the quality of play provided by our team at the beginning of this season. All previous opponents were defeated in a rudimentary manner, except for Mladosta from Lucca, who "survived" by sheer luck at the "Rajko Mitić" stadium, and took one point from Belgrade. In the last match, the red and whites defeated Napredak, with a score of 2:0, and the scorers were Bruno Duarte and Mirko Ivanić.
The Benfica team is in a slightly weaker form than expected at the beginning of the Portuguese championship. Namely, after five rounds of the competition, they are only in fifth place in the table, with 10 points. They failed already in the first round, against the Famalikaa team, when they were defeated 2:0. However, as expected, a team of such renown will not be in a result crisis for long, and in the last game they recorded a victory over Santa Clara, with a score of 4:1.
OPPOSING PLAYERS
The Portuguese great usually performs in the offensive variant of the 4-3-3 formation. Among the posts is the young Ukrainian goalkeeper - Anatoly Trubin. The pillars of the defense are represented by Antonio Silva, the young representative of Portugal, and the experienced Nicolas Otamendi. Alexander Bach and Alvaro Carreras, a former player of Manchester United, work on the flanks in defense. The midfield is controlled by Florentino Luis in the middle, and Orkan Koccu and Benjamin Rolheiser in width. In the most offensive line, the hardened star of world football - Angel Di Maria, the Turkish national team member - Kerem Akturkoglu and the staunch Greek center forward - Evangelos Pavlidis are playing. Options from the bench for coach Bruno Laz are Samuel Soares, Artur Cabral, Andreas Sjeldrup, Tomas Araujo...
