Maracana 60 years our house - September 2 come to the birthday celebration

For 60 years, star players have been enjoying the stands of the stadium where they experienced the greatest joys, emotions, games, upheavals, fantastic goals, victories, and even those heavy defeats that were the driving force to fill the last place at the Maracana in the next match.

The magnificent sports facility and one of the largest in the Balkans has been named "Rajko Mitić" after the first Zvezda star since 2014. The previous name of the stadium was "FK Crvena Zvezda Stadium", but despite that, it was simply Maracana in all corners of the world and for all star players.

The gates were officially opened for the first time on September 1, 1963, in the match that Zvezda played with Rijeka (2:1), and that match was attended by 55,000 spectators, so that autumn's record was recorded in the derby with Partizan, when there were 74 thousand souls in the stands.

Already the following year, when the construction of the stadium was completely completed, the capacity was 110 thousand spectators! Due to its grandiosity and large capacity, the fans rightly compared the stadium to the largest in the world at the time - "Maracana" in Rio de Janeiro. From those days, until today, that name has remained an integral part of the story of Red Star, and our beloved the stadium has become synonymous with success and victories!

The highest attendance was recorded in 1975 and it was 96,070 fans at the Cup semi-final match played by Red Star against Ferencvaros. According to official data, there were so many spectators with purchased tickets, but it is estimated that on that April night, 110 thousand star players were present at our "Maracana", which was the capacity of the stadium at that time.

Maracana is not just a stadium where our Red Star performs, it is much more than that, Maracana is our home.

The jubilee 60th birthday celebration is scheduled for September 2 at 8 p.m., when the first team members of our team will meet Novi Pazar. The jersey is mandatory, come let's paint Maracana red and white!
