Former Crvena zvezda centre-forward and fan favorite - Zoran Jovičić commented on the great turnarounds of our club at Marakana, against Kaiserslautern and HJK Helsinki, and with a great deal of optimism said that our team, with respect for the opponent in front of a full Marakana, can qualify for the Champions League.
- We played against a team that won the Bundesliga the following season, led by the same coach. We played a good match on the away field, and we unfortunatelly lost 1-0. We had respect, but we knew the dominance of German teams. It was the turn for the home leg, where we managed to equalise the score in 90 minutes. In overtime we showed strength and power, So much so that we steamrolled the German side. Dejan Stanković scored two goals, and the whole team played very well. The game was remembered for its great turnaround and dominance during extra time, which was impressive against a team from Germany. A full stadium helps in every match, but for Zvezda at Marakana, the crowd is always the 12th man. I've seen this throughout history, from older generations to mine. If we recall Kaiserslautern and Helsinki first, it was really the fans who gave the wind at their backs. One Barcelona was speechless to the choreography when the players came out of the tunnel, I personally witnessed that. That's exactly what I want in the rematch against Bodø/Glimt - said Jovičić.
Zoran Jovičić points out that our team must be as careful as possible in the upcoming match, but that the red-and-whites have quality that they should demonstrate at the Rajko Mitić Stadium.
- Bodø has shown that they are a good team, which is used to playing matches on artificial surface. It is not easy to play on such a field, as a former player I can confirm that. There is a big difference when a team is used to artificial turf and teams that are adapted to natural grass. The goal we scored left us in the game. I think that Zvezda has the tools to turn the tie around. It has happened throughout history that we have managed to make up for a bigger gap at the full Marakana, but we have to play very well. Vladan Milojević and the players know that, and I'm honestly optimistic before the duel - said the former Crvena zvezda ace.
