The symbol of the Crvena zvezda Youth School - Tomislav Toma Milićević left us yesterday at the age of 84. The players he discovered and trained, such as Strahinja Eraković, Marko Grujić and Boško Janković, said goodbye to him with kind words.
- I was shaken by the news I learned. My first coach and mentor in Crvena zvezda - Toma Milićević - passed away. If it weren't for him, the question is whether I would have ever played in the beloved red and white jersey, and I am extremely grateful to him for making it possible for me. It would be redundant to talk about the number of talents he discovered and "unearthed" in Serbia, and the number of football players he helped. Of course, in addition to all the football skills he allowed us to develop, he taught us the most important thing - to be good people. With him, order, work and discipline were always at a perfect level, and there was always mutual respect with the football players. I am very sorry and it is a great shame that one of the greatest football minds in Serbia has left us - said Strahinja Eraković.
Uncle Toma Milićević brought Marko Grujić to Crvena zvezda.
- Great Uncle Tom was the man who first talked to my father about my arrival in Red Star. Also, he was my first coach in the club that I have supported since I was a child. When I came to the club, I knew how many great players he trained and made in Red Star. Every day I spent in the club, it became more and more clear to me why it was like that, he was human-sized. He was a very demanding and disciplined coach, yet always fair. He was a real role model for us, both on and off the field. He will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches of our club, and of course also as a great football player and, above all, a human being. I am honored to be a player and a man who was trained and taught by the famous uncle Tima Milićević - said Marko Grujić.
Boško Janković did not spare nice words about the legend of our club.
- A truly authentic man, there were not many such people in the world of football. He discovered a huge number of football players, and he trained and made even more of them, really, I have only words of praise for such a man. He helped Red Star a lot during his life, and with his work and approach, he represented the club in the best light. He was very strict in "his" time, extremely demanding, but also fair. There were various scenes and turbulence, but that is exactly what made the players better on the field and off it. It made all the players stronger, which was necessary for us, due to the cruelty of professional sports. He made us into "soldiers", who are more than ready for life, and I am immensely grateful to him for that - emphasized Boško Janković.
