Dragan Džajić - surely the best player in the history of Serbian and Yugoslavian football. He was born on May 30th 1946 in Ub, and his parents are Krstivoje and Vidosava.
He came to Red Star as a fifteen-year old, after giving an extraordinary performance at junior tournament in Valjevo, where he was spotted by "talent-scouts" of the biggest clubs. After moving to Belgrade, it took Džajić only six months to earn an invitation to the senior team, and an important historical fact will remain- the coach Miša Pavić gave the “grandmaster” his first chance on June 8th in 1963 in the match against Budućnost from Podgorica.
He won the first title wearing the red and white uniform during the next season, 1964, and he will also be remembered as the leader of the first generation in the history who performed a hat-trick in the ex- Yugoslavian Championship (1968, 1969, 1970). He won the Champion title for the fifth time in 1973, and he also got to raise the National Cup four times. After leaving the most successful Serbian club, once the world’s best left wing, added two years of playing abroad to his biography. In 1975 and the next year he played for the French club Bastia (he played eighty matches for the team). A return to the red and white team followed where he remained until his farewell game on May 28th 1978 in Mostar. Statistics show that he played 590 matches in the Red Star uniform, a true record, during which he scored 287 goals. He played on the national team 85 times, and that was also a record until October 2004. After his more than successful career, he accepted the position of a technical director in 1979 at the Red Star management’s proposal. Twelve years later, Dragan Džajić wrote the most beautiful page in the history of Serbian football by winning the European and World Champion titles, together with his associates, In addition to being the club’s technical director, the dribbling master served two terms as the president of the club since 1998.
