First match of the Superliga play-off brought a huge fixture - table-topping Zvezda hosted second-placed Radnički in what was billed as the biggest match for both clubs this season.
Vladan Milojević opted for his favourite 4-2-3-1 formation with in-form Richmond Boakye spearheading the attack which was also boosted with great options with Ivanić, Marin and Ben all supporting the Ghanaian.
Former Crvena zvezda boss Nenad Lalatović put the pressure off his Radnički side by talking up the hosts in his pre-match presser. Radnički are having one of the best seasons in club's rich history and they arrived in Belgrade to try and make the title race even more exciting.
Zvezda started brightly and were nearly ahead inside five minutes after a Marko Marin pass released Milan Rodić on the left. The defender did well to stay onside, but his rolled finish was off target.
The visitors from Niš put Zvezda under some pressure in the opening 45 minutes, but were undone by a couple of penalties.
A foul on Jovančić midway through the first half gave a chance to Richmond Boakye and the Ghanaian striker made no mistake.
Marko Marin was bossing the midfield and created chances for his team-mates. Former Germany international was brought down in the box in first half injury time and Ben dispatched the penalty with the last kick of the half to double the lead for the champions.
Just three minutes into the second half Richmond Boakye got another goal - this time from open play. He's done well to stay onside and finish above Ristić before celebrating with the fans below the North Stand.
Radnički were virtually killed off by Boayke's second goal and offered far less in the second forty-five minutes. Vladan Milojević's team enjoyed even more possession and allowed few chances to the visitors.
Chances on either side were few as the game aproached its end, and the final whistle was greeted with big cheers from the home fans. Our team now has seven points more than second-placed Radnički and is in a great position to retain the title.
