Our new midfielder Dejan Meleg signed a three-year contract with FK Crvena zvezda today. Former Vojvodina and Ajax playmaker signs from Turkish club Kayserispor and will also have an option for a further year at Rajko Mitić Stadium.
It's no secret Meleg was on Zvezda's radar for the past year or so and Director of Football Mitar Mrkela was delighted to complete the deal for Meleg this time around.
“Dejan is a player I’ve worked with in the past. He won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with Serbia back in 2013 and is a player of great skill. We’re looking forward to seeing him fulfill his potential in a red-and-white shirt of Red Star.”
Dejan Meleg thanked Crvena zvezda for bringing him back to Serbia and handing him an opportunity to play for the champions of Serbia.
“I’ve already completed two training sessions with my new team-mates and it feels great. There are players that I met before, I know the Assistant Head Coach Milan Kosanović very well, having worked with him for years while at Vojvodina. I feel welcome here and I’m delighted to have joined the country’s biggest club.”
Meleg will wear the number 8 shirt, that has previously been donned by Guélor Kanga.
“I’m an offensive midfielder. My natural position is just behind the strikers. Kanga was great for the club and I feel that I have the ability to wear that shirt and be a useful player for the team. I’m ready for the challenge.”
