It's started lively in Novi Sad as Mrkaić forced a classy save from Borjan after just 40 seconds played. Our captain dived to his right and pulled off a terrific reflex stop to prevent a nightmare start for his team.
Bem tried his luck from a free kick, but his 19th-minute effort was just off target as Zvezda slowly took control of the match after initial Vojvodina pressure.
Milan Gajić was lively down the right flank in the early stages and his efforts were awarded with the opening goal on 26 minutes. The defender was given too much space on the edge of the area and he made the most of it by firing in via a slight deflection from just inside the box.
Second half brought some choppier football as Vojvodina couldn't really use their possession to create real chances and Zvezda kept disciplined and rarely entered the opposition's area. But it all changed on 74 minutes when Veljko Nikolić entered the box and turned only to be fouled by a clumsy challenge.
Ben converted the resulting penalty all but secure the points at Vojvodina.
It was a well-deserved win for Dejan Stanković's team. Up next is another Europa League challenge...
