He received his specialization in General Surgery in 1988 and passed the specialist exam in 1992 with excellent success before the commission consisting of Prof. Dr Aleksandar Karadžić, Prof. Dr Branislav Dragićević, and Prof. Dr Vladimir Arsov.
In the academic year 1987/88, he enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, Department of Digestive System.
He defended his master's thesis titled "Construction and Functional Outcome of Ileal Reservoir in the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis" in 1999 and his doctoral dissertation titled "The Significance of Colonic J-Pouch in Improving Emptying Function and Quality of Life in Patients Operated for Rectal Carcinoma" in 2008.
As a student, he began voluntary work at the Second Surgical Clinic of the University Clinical Center in Belgrade in 1983. After completing his mandatory medical internship at the "Boris Kidrič" Health Center, from June 1986 to November 1987, he volunteered as a clinical doctor at the Second Surgical Clinic of the University Clinical Center in Belgrade.
In November 1987, he was employed full-time at the Institute for Digestive System Diseases, at the Clinic for Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. In March 1988, he transferred to the First Surgical Clinic, where he currently works as a surgeon, head of the eighth department, and director of the First Surgical Clinic.
He was appointed as an assistant professor at the Department of Surgery with Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, in 1999, and is now a full professor at the Department of Surgery with Anesthesiology.
He specialized in Colorectal Surgery in one of the world's most renowned hospitals in that field, St. Mark's Hospital in London, in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy in Mainz and Ludwigshafen (Germany), in advanced pelvic organ malignancy surgery in Manchester (England) at Christie Hospital, and as a scholar of the European Council of Coloproctology (ECCP), participated in numerous courses, education programs, professional meetings, and congresses in Europe and worldwide.
His reputation and expertise were confirmed by his appointment as the director of the Clinic for Digestive Surgery, First Surgical Clinic, Clinical Center of Serbia, on 1 October 2015.
He is a member of numerous domestic and foreign associations: SLD, Association of Surgeons of Yugoslavia, Surgical Section of SLD, Member of NUPENS - National Association for Clinical Nutrition of Serbia, World Association of University Colorectal Surgeons (since 1998), Association of Mediterranean Society of Coloproctology (since 1999), European Association of Coloproctology (since 2002), Central European Club of Coloproctology (since 2003), ESCP Member (since 2006), Board member of UHCIBS (Association for Chronic Intestinal Inflammatory Diseases of Serbia) (since 2011), Member of the Surgeons' Association of Republika Srpska (since 2010), founding member of UAHS (since 2013), Member of the Scientific Society of Serbia (since 2018), Medical Academy of SLD (since 2019), World Association of University Colorectal Surgeons (since 1998), Association of Mediterranean Society of Coloproctology (since 1999), European Association of Coloproctology (since 2002), Central European Club of Coloproctology (since 2003).

He is one of the founders (1998) of the Society of Coloproctologists of Yugoslavia (DKJ), now the general secretary and a member of the presidency.
For over twenty years (from 1992 to 2016), he worked in the third department of the First Surgical Clinic in the team of Prof. Dr. Zoran Krivokapić. He participated in the introduction of over twenty new surgical procedures in colorectal surgery. He is currently the head of the eighth department of the First Surgical Clinic.
He is an author and co-author of more than 70 papers published in domestic and international journals. He is one of the co-authors of the book "Emergency and War Surgery," published in 1998, and the book "Surgery for Medical Students" of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, published in 2009, as well as the editor of the monograph "Stoma," published in 2007, and nine chapters in monographs, books, and practical manuals.
As a researcher and collaborator, he participated and is participating in six international and five domestic scientific projects.
He has delivered over 40 invited lectures at domestic and international congresses and professional meetings.
He participated in numerous professional meetings in the country and abroad, presenting over a hundred professional lectures and papers.
He is a member of the commission and mentor/supervisor of many graduate theses, doctoral dissertations, and subspecializations.
He organized and was one of the organizers of over 30 international and domestic congresses, symposiums, meetings, and educational courses.
He was the organizer or one of the organizers of the Eighth Congress of Surgeons of Yugoslavia in 1994 in Belgrade.
He organized the first and second International Symposium of Coloproctologists of Yugoslavia in 1998 and 2000, was the President of the Organizing Committee of the third (2002), fourth (2004), fifth (2006), sixth International Symposium of Coloproctologists of Yugoslavia (2008), seventh (2010), eighth (2012), ninth (2014), tenth (2016), eleventh (2018), and the ninth Central European Congress of Coloproctologists (2004).
He organized 11 professional meetings for doctors, nurses, and technicians from 2003 to 2017 in Kopaonik.
He has received numerous awards, among which are notable: City of Belgrade Award (2014) for the textbook "Surgery" (edited by Prof. Dr. Živan Maksimović), City of Belgrade Award (2012) for the monograph "Rectal Carcinoma" (edited by Prof. Dr. Zoran Krivokapić, where he authored two chapters), Plaque of the Serbian Medical Society (2014), Charter of the Serbian Medical Society, Branch Čačak (Charter for exceptional personal and professional collaboration with Čačak surgeons (2016), and Charter of the Serbian Medical Society (2019).
