The 2015/16 season did not start well. Elimination from the UEFA Europa League at the very first hurdle at the hands of Kazakhstan's FC Kairat wasn't a great sign, but Head Coach Miodrag Božović believed in his team. A few recruits were brought in and the team started to click after a slow start.
First three league matches brought two stalemates, but Red Star gathered steam and went on to make a record-breaking string of 24 straight league wins – two of those against Partizan, the clubs „eternal“ rivals.
The team looked unbeatable for most of the season and the players such as Aleksandar Katai, Marko Grujić, Hugo Vieira and Mitchell Donald starred until the end.
The title was only secured three games before the end of the season because of the newly-introduced play-off stage that halved the points tally of every club after the regular 30 matchdays. Still, the title was never in doubt and Zvezda captain Aleksandar Luković lifted it in front of the home crowd.
Head Coach Miodrag Božović was delighted after the title win.
“This has been a season to remember, even though it seems to have dragged a bit too long in the end. It will be difficult to repeat that amazing string of victories.”
